For many decades the State of Israel has sought to encourage Aliya through tax benefits.

Amendment 168 of the Tax Ordinance (enacted in 2008) prescribed significant tax benefits to new immigrants and returning residents. The most substantial tax exemption is an exemption related to income and profits accrued abroad during a certain number of years.
